Linnaisten vihreä kamari

These old Finnish movies are an acquired taste. They are always over-acted with kind of predictable romance plots happening and stuff tends to end up in an overly happy note. Still, it's got some great gothic moods and Captain Winterloo was a great character.

From a dramatic point-of-view, there is a lot going on here in this gothic creation from Valentin Vaala and Finland, but the story simply struggles to find it's heart. The mood and lighting is what carries the experience.

Decent old mystery film that still hangs together despite mixing different genres like horror and comedy. It manages the tone with a light and seamless touch in both writing and directing. Hammy in a classically Finnish way but the shadowed cinematography is very eye-pleasing and the story opens up with certain classical charm. Not very deep or innovative but very enjoyable in its conservative style.
