Straub. Pavese. Again. It's probably the worst of the Straub Pavese shorts I've seen, with or without Huillet, and it's not a patch on Quei loro incontri, their last great work, but completists who feel compelled to complete should dive right in. It's only 15 minutes!

O Inconsolável estreava há 10anos no Festival de Locarno. Seguindo na linha de adaptações de Cesare Pavese, Straub evidencia o próprio luto na forma de Orfeu perdendo Eurídice. No Youtube ( https://youtu.be/0z9qJGjM_eI )

"The Inconsolable" is a section of Pavese's Dialogues with Leuco concerned with Orpheus' lament for Eurydice, and the complexity of the meaning of that journey to Hades. Combined with a beautiful Schumann piece, it seems as if Straub is feeling even more desolate about the loss of Huillet than he was when he made ARTEMIS' KNEE. Or at least: continuing to reflect on our mortal character and what it means for those left behind. Or at least: selecting a text that so reflects.
