Limbo

It's almost a joke; Simon Baker, the star of 'The Mentalist', is the lead in a film about a cold case, and the punchline is that he is impersonating Walter White (from 'Breaking Bad'). But, it's no joke; Baker does an impressive job of carving out a simple yet complex character who holds your attention; I particularly like the way he repeatedly says, "fair enough." And, Sen capably confronts the audience with race relations front on, in a genuine message about the need for change.

For fans of the Mystery Road genre.

Seems very reminiscent of Ivan Sen's own Mystery Road, though inferior in every department. There's initially an engaging tale of ignorance towards remote Indigenous communities, personified by the hazy drug-addicted detective, though the film doesn't end up traveling anywhere too interesting with this premise. It cruises by respectfully, with no highs or lows, but doesn't come across as important or urgent as it should be.
