Lillian

Hypnotic and tragic saga rests entirely on Planik's mute performance as she travels a by-foot journey through America's "heartland" - you keep expecting Lillian to run into serious danger, but what's most sad and striking is the complete disconnect she encounters along the way (the best help she gets is to be dropped even further into the middle of nowhere!) Arguably can't quite reconcile a needlessly oblique ending, but this is still great stuff, most reminiscent of an existential 70s indie.

Despite there being basically no dialog, having a super simple story, and little to no opportunity to act, it was nevertheless engaging and holds your interest. I became invested in this character and was quite dissatisfied with the exceedingly shabby ending.
