Lies and Alibis seems solely focused on being 'clever' and wowing the audience, and in doing so forgets the basic rules of what make a film. It's like an extended episode of the BBC's Hustle except with Steve Coogan in America.

Lies and Alibis is far from Coogan's best work, but he along with a recognisable cast make a somewhat watchable film. There are a lot of moving parts which come together in classic heist-film fashion; unfortunately half these parts are unnecessary and the other half executed poorly. The forced obfuscation of details in an attempt to raise tension make the film a lot less compelling. Underwhelming overall.

The Alibi is a decent enough comedy romp that's easy enough to watch, if rather unspectacular. It's not as funny as it should be, and the unfolding plot is never as clever as you feel the writers think it is. Sports a good cast, although Coogan himself is the blandest of the lot - mainly due to the straight lead role he's given.

Slick con comedy. Not as dumb as you would expect for a movie with S. Coogan.

It's enjoyable, nothing too heavy and the story was ok. I got the impression Steve Coogan never really took off in this, like he was rehearsing all the way through. The rest of the cast were okay too. A nice, light farce.

A slick caper with a cute premise. It's not really clear why this movie needs Rebecca Romijn, and Steve Coogan is disappointing in his range. But as far as a light farce goes, it comes together very nicely.
