L'homme de nulle part

A successful adaptation of Luigi Pirandello's famous play Il fu Mattia Pascal by underrated director Pierre Chenal. Reminds in tone his other literary classic Le dernier tournant [The Last Turn] (1939) which was based on The Postman Always Rings Twice. Again he doesn't deliver the suspense at the highest level, but the rest is fluent as can be. A stern performance by Pierre Blanchar at the center of things, and with trouble (aka women and conmen) everywhere he goes. A pleasure to watch.
