marker asks the viewer to reflect how they wield information in relation to how the past wielded power. despite the videogame being nothing more than a dated CD-ROM, it exists as a perfect bed for a multitude of questions involving memory and its use in hierarchies. the melding of personal and political is flawless and i'm in love.

People sure like comparing this to HER, don't they? I don't see the connection, although I guess Marker's film is also a "computer romance" but it's also a lot more interesting. In practice, it's mostly just a film about mourning with some nice Sans Soleil-esque poetic travelogue stuff thrown in for good measure.

Marker's musings are as poetic as ever, and in some ways this film feels even more timely than his masterpiece Sans Soleil, however the presentation feels somewhat clumsier and computer graphics unfortunately date it.
