Based on a non-fiction novel by an ex-convict about how to stay out of jail (and/or survive it once you know you're headed upriver), Let's Go To Prison is an uncompromising, no-hold-barred revenge comedy. This prison movie takes a fresh, probing look at our penal system -- rife with plenty of sweet, cloistered, man love. (Universal)

I liked the concept, but there were just too many jokes that didn't connect.

A couple decent jokes don't really make up for the terrible plot and script.

I remember this being somewhat okay and did have a few moments. Though there are decent enough sized gaps between those moments.

Amiably silly comic spin on “prison movie” tropes benefits from avoiding the obvious route (especially in regards to violence and rape jokes) and presenting two well-rounded and likable protagonists in Shepard and Arnett, and a genuinely nicely observed performance by McBride in support. Still can’t quite get past the overall air of familiarity and clumsy plotting which never gives the boys a decent antagonist to push against (why does Baker all but disappear after a killer opening scene?)

I watched it for the stars, and was disappointed for the same reason. Well, not in Chi McBride.

The best part is that this movie actually feels pretty authentic while remaining a comedy. The worst part is that it seems to boil down to "rape is funny: the movie".

Regardless of how stupid the movie is, and it's pretty stupid, I still laughed throughout. I'm a big fan of Will Arnett and he delivers in this movie. More surprisingly Dax Shepard, who I've never been that big of a fan of, really brought it as well and the chemistry of the two was great.

If you take as given that this is a dumb comedy, and it is, very much so actually, but still it manages to elicit many solid laughs consistently.

I must be crazy, because I laughed pretty much nonstop through this movie. Dax Shepard and Will Arnett were fucking top notch. I personally think they're both great actors, and work well together in this comedy.

A part of humanity was lost when the decent quality clip of the end of this movie was taken off of youtube. Chi McBride making something out of nothing just dancing along is special.

Dax Shepard is a wet rag. It's only just watchable. I wouldn't go out of my way but I also couldn't be bothered reaching for the remote to switch it off.

Ridiculous and hilarious movie. Like Rat Race (2001), there are some great one-liners that you'll quote and scenes re-enact again and again with your friends. At least, that's what we did. :)

It's weird how so many of the people I find funny on TV shows and in standup make such mediocre films. I love Mr. Show and Arrested Development but this just isn't very funny. Though honestly my expectations weren't high; I've heard Odenkirk's regretful stories of his inauspicious directing career, and there's not a whole lot here to make me believe he was just being modest. It also reeks of studio interference. Might've worked as a drama with dark comedy elements. As comedy it's just not funny.

I went in expecting 90 minutes of 'LOL, prison shower' jokes. And while there are in deed a few of those, it doesn't dwell on it. A relatively solid lowbrow comedy.

This movie was horrible. I watched this because I am a fan of Will Arnett. This was a terrible idea for a movie and it should have never been made. This movie definitely lacked laughs.

Bob Odenkirk plus Will Arnett equals comedy gold, right? Couldn't be more wrong in this case, thanks to a script by State alums Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, who are pretty funny, but can't write for shit (see also: Taxi, The Pacifier, etc.), and professional untalented douche Dax Shepard (whose only redeeming role was Idiocracy. Let's Go to Prison falls flat at every opportunity. How Odenkirk and Arnett would go on to collaborate on the very enjoyable Brothers Solomon remains a mystery.

Altenate title: G.O.B. Goes to Jail. I was pretty baked when I saw this, and it made me laugh. Some of the jokes are obvious and flop, but others work well. Chi McBride's scenes for example, cliche as they might be, are quite funny simply because he wills them to be so. The ridiculous soundtrack that rolls whenever he's on screen and just his sheer presence as a performer make me giggle. Arnett is hysterical, and the movie rides on his appeal during its best moments. Better than expected.

Interesting choice to cast Shepard and Arnett in a comedy then not let them be funny. A few of chuckles here and there, mostly coming from Chi McBride. Not enough laughs for a comedy and not enough substance for anything else.

Funny cast, but I think if you removed all the jokes that revolve around rape and the threat of rape, this movie would be about 50 minutes.

A very decent comedy. Though the plot is a little screwy, the humour is unpredictable, and just really hilarious at times. But for the most part, it's just an average comedy.

I love anything Will Arnett does, and I think Bob Odenkirk is awesome. So ... what happened? They didn't even try to make jokes, they just put Will Arnett's character in uncomfortable situations for what seemed like an eternity.

Chi McBride carries this mediocre comedy. Sadly, Will Arnett is exposed as being funny, but unable to rise above the material and Dax Sheppard is atrocious, which is part for the course for Dax Sheppard.

I'm happy to see that Bob Odenkirk is capable of directing a decent movie. It isn't fantastic but entertaining and it has plenty of laughs especially if you think it's funny when assholes are suffering in awful situations.

A comedy should be funny, right? I didn't even laugh until about an hour into the movie, and not much after that. It seems like a five minute idea stretched into an hour and a half long film. Really bad.
