Rather slow, and none of the characters are particularly likable, but this is still a mostly-enjoyable Euro zombie flick with strong counterculture vibes throughout (o hai, streaker!). The final scene makes no sense but probably got audiences to cheer anyway.

Seriously good--and overlooked--zombie film that also includes some unintentional humor and some fantastic gore.

Great low budget zombie flick from the mid-70s...short on gore but long on tension and chilling atmosphere. Builds up slowly to a nicely frantic finale...a couple of quality corpsefeasting scenes, but this could've been awesome with a few more undead shambling about. Still highly recommended.

Huh, not the worst zombie film I've watched, by a mile. Typical dumb character decisions (seriously, RUN when someone else is being eaten, instead of sticking around). The pace is great and the tension ratchets up. I'm not into gore but it's there for fans. The English countryside was idyllic. Fav scenes: driving around the countryside in the beginning, the "oh shit" moment in the basement when the corpses reanimate.

I saw this under the title "The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue"; I think it has about a thousand different titles. The film works pretty well, and is nicely directed, although the script isn't the best. Nobody is particularly likeable in it, especially the policeman who is a complete roaster. It is suitably tense in parts, gory in others, and benefits from some fine countryside locations. It maybe misses the global threat implied by films like the Romero films, but this is a worthy effort.

Surprisingly effective zombie film, with the stark countryside sets and hazy daylight providing an unusually eerie atmosphere. A few tasty gore scenes as well.

Every single title this movie has ever had attached to it is awesome. According to the AKA on the films page that includes "The."

Exquisite, atmospheric living dead flick. A slow burning anomaly in the sub-genre, it's possible that it will fly straight over the tiny heads of you gorehounds who were weaned on Romero-remakes. But then... "you're all the same, the lot of you, with your long hair and faggot clothes! Drugs, sex, every sort of filth! And you hate the police, don't you?" (Yeah, this film kicks some ass).

Don't let the UK setting, Spanish director, and American and British actors fool you, this is an Italian production through and through, albeit slightly less incomprehensible than usual. Probably the best zombie movie released between Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, not that the competition was all that stiff.

Enjoyable surprise, would easily make it into my top ten zombie films. Does a great job of building an atmosphere of unease and the gore effects are fantastic; I'd even say it's better than the original NOTLD.

Não se Deve Profanar o Sono dos Mortos estreava há 45 anos na Espanha. O que me encantou nesse filme foi a força do ódio do Jorge Grau por policiais. FUCK THE POLICE! Box Versátil Zumbis no Cinema Volume 1.

Though it often has a loose grip on logic & there are several scenes that just don't make any sense- the very end being one of them- it's still a fascinatingly unique zombie movie from one of horror's most experimental eras. Full of impressive gore effects for the time & solid performances from its cast, it also has an environmentally conscious message that's arguably more relevant today than it was in the 70's. The finale is a bit meh to be honest, but overall this is still worth seeing.

Some nice ambient sound design establishes a distinctly off-kilter atmosphere from the start, but it can't save the film from the rest of its failings: awful dubbing, poor acting, incongruous character motivations... I enjoyed its slower pace, but it doesn't function towards much in the way of tension or horror.

Yes, a shameless NOTLD ripoff, but it's pretty together.

a sort of classical approach to a zombie movie, borrowing very little from romero but instead going for a more slow-burning atmospheric style of horror with fewer, more dangerous zombies. it's not the most amazing film, but it's a bit unique and certainly better than most of the italian zombie films coming out at the time.

A decent slower-paced zombie film. Roy Lovelock is good in the lead role, and the countryside locations are well shot. The actual zombie scenes are somewhat lacking in tension, but overall it's an enjoyable film.

Stylish zombie film with very interesting characters. i actually found the onset part of the film more fun than the zombie gore finale. Good choice for midnight screening.

Claustrophobically shot, and with a couple of actors (Arthur Kennedy as the cop and Ray Lovelock as the "hero") at least trying, but it's paced rather "waveringly" and the script is rather poor (although it offer some humorous lines, often addressing social and political issues). The ending at the hospital is pretty savage, and the film is throughout bleak as hell, but, as said, the pace is very problematic. I was not enjoying this.

In the midst of a lot of Euro zombie schlock being churned out in the 70s, Spanish director Jorge Grau stepped up and made a movie that was competently directed, well acted, well paced, and pretty scary. It's not the best zombie film, but it's near the top of the list.
