Lesson of the Evil

To teach a bunch of bratty kids a lesson, a teacher goes on a shooting spree. Lacking the satire or humor to make this work in the way that Battle Royale or even God Bless America did, there's nothing satisfying in the massacre. Nor is there the tension or horror of something like Elephant, because you don't care about the murderous teacher or the flatly drawn students. Also weirdly conventional and tame given Miike's brilliantly depraved previous works. And it sets up a sequel? Bitch, pleeeaz

This had promise but ultimately it fell flat. All of the characters are either bland or played bland which equals the same thing.

Takes its time but uses it the wrong way. Nothing is explored enough here. Not the school system, not the psychotic teacher, not the students. So in the end it's just the violence but even then it's not so interesting because Miike didn't have ideas to keep your attention.

Nasty, humourless, and ultimately rather pointless story about a teacher shooting up a school. Miike knows his gore, but here it just gets ugly and, after a while, rather boring.

Hardly enjoyable

Miike's awesome craftsmanship and unflinching capacity for brutality once again dampened by a stupid script.

I usually dislike movies with genius characters who fail to show the audience why they are considered so. Plus, the ending was hollow as heck.

Fun, beatifully shot, but in the end, hollow and by the numbers, even the ending feels just what you would expect from Miike.

Sort of just comes out of nowhere and is completely relentless until the end...at some point though, watching school children get blown apart by a shotgun just sort of gets...boring?
