Did Steven Spielberg watch this before conceiving CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND? If not, the two films are uncannily similar. This one is a strange hotch potch of science fiction, the occult, a bit of surrealism, and some kind of political reflection, sutured together with fairly basic filmmaking that somehow does add up to something a bit unlike anything else. Has the advantage over Spielberg that Easter Island really is a mysterious place.
