While more famous for his avant-garde style of film making, Jean Epstein also made more conventional movies filled with comedy and broad appeal like this project about the bandit Robert Macaire (Jean Angelo) and his much more lively sidekick Bertrand (Alex Allin)! Lasting 3 hours it's a bit too much and could easily been edited down to a regular length film without losing anything vital. Alex Allin deserve extra praise saving the film from becoming dull.
