Sometimes you have to bury your deads, let the past bygone and look forward to future. Always searching for roots is not healthy and indeed it usually leads to a too conservative frame of mind.

Years since I've last seen it, this used to be the "it" film in our community back in 1998. Shot in my hometown, I was inevitably drawn to its meager portrayal of jewish household customs; Then again, Krabbé pulls no punches in shoving its mushy storyline and some blatantly hammy performances down your throat, dvd's might as well be accompanied by disposable tissue boxes. Also, remove the concierge and you've got a better movie...barely.
