The story is important and resonates in today's clickbait media landscape, which often overlooks more challenging topics. However, the subject matter doesn't really translate that well to the screen, and the film lacks a clear focus. Winslet's performance is the standout, and the primary reason to watch it. The supporting cast features solid turns from Marion Cotillard and Alexander Skarsgård. It's worth a watch, but it also feels somewhat pretentious and designed to attract awards attention.

An interesting biopic about someone I wasn't familiar with. Winslet gives a pretty solid performance. I could really feel her characters' frustration about what happened and I liked that it featured additional information/historical context about what happened in her life, before the credits rolled. A worthwhile watch.

Impactless WW2 movie that is too sanitized to feel real and too ordinary to invoke curiosity. It begs the question if the true story is interesting enough for a feature film with a copious running time. A model turned photographer takes pictures during the war supposedly as one of the few women doing so. Ok, but what's the point? The drama here is a reach and feels made up, and the warzone too polished. Maybe Lee was just a gutsy gal doing her job. Which doesn't really warrant a 2 hour hymn.

Schmaltzy and boring stuff made even worse by an annoying performance from Kate Winslet. Lines like "I was always the last to leave the party anyway", are stunningly uncool.

It's an interesting life, or maybe just an interesting time, but I don't know that there's enough of a narrative really for a dramatized movie over say a shorter informative documentary. The runtime is long, and it feels like it lacks focus. In this format it also introduces a problem of not really knowing what's factual and what's embellishment. And just something about the movie feels so overproduced that I can't put my finger on, that made it feel shallow and flat and lack impact for me.
