A family vacation in the country turns into a nightmare when the world seemingly ends. It's got a decent cast (though Kevin Bacon is wasted in a small cameo), but the direction is amateur hour. Way too much bad CGI, and endless rotating camera shots, to the point that it becomes a distraction. The theme of the film is that people are assholes, and that will be our ultimate undoing, but damn it takes forever to get there. 140 minutes of my life I'm never going to get back. Fuck this movie.

Quite possibly the worst thing i have seen in a long while. Everything about this is ugly, be it crap cgi, completely misplaced tone, score and cinematography, horrible dialog, nonsensical characters and plot etc.etc...thus the biggest mysteries remain: how the fuck did ethan hawke get older than kevin bacon and what the hell happened to julia roberts' face??! The only way this "movie" could redeem itself is if the obamas lost a shit ton of money with it.

It dripfeeds fun (and nonsensical) plot twists at just the right speed without going full over the top. The visual style is flashy and tricked out in places but not unnecessarily so. I really like when camera's go upside down or rotate horizontally. The timpani driven and well-recorded music helps. Since it's a Netflix original i was waiting for it to start sucking because that's what i'm used to, but by the end i had to conclude it was a 2h20m of popcorn entertainment very well spent.

Strikes an entertaining balance between genuinely grim what-if scenarios and overwrought dramatic contrivances that invite popcorn and can't be absolutely serious. While a little on-the-nose with the messaging, it's well above-par compared with typical disaster movies. The characters aren't epitomes of nuanced writing, but they're acted well enough to engage. If ever there was a place for such crazy photography angles and bombastic orchestra hits this movie is it.

The source novel is one of the worst books I've ever read. Still, I thought the adaptation could expand the premise while removing the stupid parts. But the movie also fails to be a satirical thriller on racism & upper class elitism. The characters are all off-putting. The film's tone unsuccessfully tries to recreate the terror of Hitchcock's The Birds. And most unforgivably it copies the ending of one of the greatest Twilight Zone episodes. Avoid this wretched cinematic disaster at all costs.

Yeah, some of this works, some of it doesn't. It feels kind of scattershot, reactionary and simplistic in its themes but I was engaged by the visuals, set pieces and tension. Intense score and good performances do a lot of the lifting as well. Needed to be tighter and shorter to reach the quality of good Twilight Zone. If you're gonna be this blunt, you have to get out faster. "We made a lot of enemies around the world, maybe they teamed up." I wonder who helped that along EP Obamas?

I feel like this movies goals were ultimately successful, even if not masterfully done. Its a warning on tech dependence, a warning on recent political splits, a poke at race relations and it does it all kinda tongue in cheek with its often unnerving backdrop. Not all of it works, but I was definitely curious and confused and wondering what was next, and that in itself in modern cinema is a rare enough event. All of the adult cast are solid as well, so I was pleasantly surprised by the end.

Ultimately plays it safe and wants to teach conventional American lessons: white people have biases, which can also manifest as forced niceness (the black pair go through no comparable self-examination); teenage boys and adult men are both possessed of sexual desires causing them to be morally weak; most of all, what endangers society is our failure to prevent foreign “bad actors” from insidiously sowing seeds of dissent with the power to eventually provoke civil war, internal collapse, etc.

This movie was trying way too hard to be artsy and deep but didn't seem to actually have any depth. Putting in themes from fancy movies and having long shots of nothing don't make a good movie. It didn't go anywhere and there was no plot and it was super boring.

I liked it to a degree, but it was not the greatest. The pacing, and the overarching story is great, and it succeeds as a psychological thriller. And it had some really great scenes, but for the most part it was boring, with boring dialogue. Acting was off for the most part, and it had some CGI shots which just looked awful.

The Happening babaları. Filmin sonunda, Friends son bölümü. Great buildup of suspense, but characters were moronic 2-D caricatures & failed to progress beyond conventional moralization. As the conspiracy laden attack scenario plays out (a U.S. divided allegory), it became clear they couldn't stick the landing. Ideas are haphazardly tossed at the wall to maintain mystery & suspense, but it all just ends up coalescing into a slop of tedious, half-baked metaphors. Mr. Robot also had a weak finale, but excelled in so many other aspects compared to this film.

It’s certainly not winning any accolades for how intelligently or subtly it gets its messaging across! That said, blunt instrument that it is, I had a perfectly reasonable time with this. Some daft camerawork aside, it looked okay and was well performed by all. It definitely had more to give and it’s a shame that it abandons its more interesting psychological elements for straight end-of-the-world drama, but it has enough about it to provide an evenings entertainment.

It's not a good movie and the cast doesn't save it. However there are some good ideas. For example the feeling of isolation and "to self-devices" is quite strong and very relevant to our times - the government is in fact impotent in its ability to keep the promise of defending its citizens.

55 minutes of setup where almost nothing happens that is also ruined by stereotypical suspense music and by 2 characters who were rude drama queens for no reason. Once it finally starts it gets worse since the rest of the characters join in on committing other trope sins, such as lying to/withholding info from each other for no reason, distrusting each other for no reason, or just not believing each other when they actually do try to share info. And the characters were so, so stupid. Just awful.

The charming story of a girl who just wants to see how Friends ends. For the most part, this is a pretty effective thriller with some great individual scenes. The acting is hit or miss, but Mahershala Ali is fantastic in everything he does and this is no exception. I'm also a sucker for creepy post-apocalytpic scenes and Leave the World Behind has some good ones. It does get too on the nose/preachy at the end, which took me out of the third act, but definitely kept me entertained.

This has gotten extremely mixed reviews, but I loved it and feel like I watched a different movie than most. I loved the atmosphere and the big set pieces. the film has a strong visual, and sometimes aural style. it builds tension well with lack of knowledge, though that tension will be dropped carelessly with offscreen resolution. once the answers start coming in it goes really bad and belies a goofy American (and parent) centric perspective, not surprising from Obamas executive producing. the themes are an unsupported mess like "escapism bad" and at points even manages to contradict itself. the standoff scene was particularly forced and typical

Starts out kind of good and interesting, but it remains a jumbled mess throughout. The characters are paper-thin and you don't really feel for any of them, even if some of the actors here are great in other things. I don't know what warranted the over 2-hour runtime, either. So many boring, poorly-written conversations and weird lines that made it sound like it was written by AI. Maybe it was! The Tesla part was funny, I'll give it that. Fuck Teslas.

Well acted right from the opening scene, this eerie thriller does not attempt to do too much. It relies heavily on social commentary to build towards the inevitable acceptance within these characters. It is well made, quick edits, the camera tricks used to make us believe something bigger is at play work well. Surprisingly the explanation of it all was quite simple and effective to convey the ultimate feeling of isolation. A timely thriller if there ever was one.

I am a sucker for these kinds of end-of-the-world movies. I love that you're first confronted with a story about trust, which quickly changes to one about survival (in which trust still plays a factor, but not the only one). Great seeing Julia Roberts back on the big screen. Loved the camera work. Some of the lines felt a bit out of place and done mostly for the trailer..

Leni Riefenstahl or Putin's state media is a kindergarten experiment compared to this Obama family produced, self-centered, self-aggrandizing, over-stylized, finger waggling indictment. This is what you get when mediocre film makers schmooze with victimhood olympics winner politicians and can't differentiate art from blatant activism; when they know nothing about (film) history and their education is limited to low resolution climate hysteria and some dull white-hating critical race theory.

Well-paced, compelling, and most of the sequences of rising tension are effective, if rather obvious in their means of manipulation. GOOD: An atmospheric apocalyptic thriller with solid acting. The performances of Roberts, Hawkes and Ali are really good (although Roberts' character is annoying). There is a long, suspensful montage in the middle showing the director's talent. And I find the ending interesting and open to interpreation. BAD: Too long! Also, dialogues are often way less intelligent then the screenwriter believes. All in all, we get too much telling instead of showing when the characters are interacting.

This is to mean I naturally gravitate towards this kind of movie. Nice to see Esmail direct a feature film like this again. Good performances, excellent tension and chaos. It'll be divisive, but an easy win for me despite some message heavy handedness. One of the better NF originals you'll see. Loved Mahershala the most

Really solid and unique thriller. Esmail continues to impress with his excellent visual style. The cast is great, and the story is intriguing and tense enough for the most part, although “Part 4” does lose a lot of steam. Due to a certain ongoing plot thread, I expected a far less wrapped up ending than what we got, so I’m not too disappointed with that either.

While there is an explanation for what's happening, the choice to not wrap everything up neatly, allowing us to just watch the US crumble, is a good one, because it allows us to soak in the atmosphere/tension. Not a horror movie with jump scares, but there's legitimate thematic terror that digs itself into you. Good performances all around, maintains the mystery well without feeling cheap, cool soundscape. My only issue is that sometimes the camera work is a little too busy.
