Being an early sound movie it's got it's rough edges, but it's highly entertaining murder mystery regardless. Marcel L'Herbier captures the chilling mood of the old house and makes a playful detective story with energetic Roland Toutain as the the journalist/photographer Rouletabille trying to find out whats happening. The old lab with all it's tubes and cats looked especially cool. Not to mention all the faces on the walls as the suspense was building. All in all, very good fun.
