Le haleur

Léonce Perret is a hauler, a man who literally pulls a canal barge along. He marries Yvette Andréyor, and they are happy. And amidst the beauty of a field near a canal, she dies before the marriage can be consummated, and Perret must now pull her funeral barge to her grave.
