Le bled

As a commissioned piece, this film is light and airy, in the spirit of Hollywood adventures in far off places. The goal here is to celebrate the centennial of the colonizing of Algeria, meaning any tension between French and Algerians is non-existent. That said, Renoir does favor those French committed to living and working in Algeria, connected to the land itself, rather than those who merely seek to live off their profits in Paris. Good documentary footage, exciting third act, and falcons!
