Lawman

Great shootouts and rather fine action. Lancaster isn’t very convincing and it drags a little too often.

This is a refreshingly complex film with neither side being clearly good or bad. What they are is increasingly unyielding, and it's a compelling reflection on intransigence and the violence it leads to. The film's final bloodbath is a victory for no one.

A Western that provides shootouts and served justice. The reason to watch it? It's a Western. Reasons to avoid? It's a Western. You do you.

"Lawman" is standard western fare, complete with an uncompromising protagonist ready to kill or be killed. The climax is what you would expect, but it comes with a couple of curveballs.

Loved this Western chock full of stars of the past. Simple plot but just well made.

Lancaster was probably a miscast.

It has it's pompous moments - it's a western - but that's mainly due to theatrical Lancaster. In fact, for all it's seemingly cliche plot, it's actually a very sober and contrary comment to the genre, and worth watching.

A fairly decent Western, refreshingly inglorious, though director Winner and writer Wilson definitely outdid it with their following movie Chato's Land. Among Lawman's flaws I count the terrible Burt Lancaster in the lead, but that balances out thanks to the impressive supporting cast, including Robert Duvall and the spectacular Lee J. Cobb.
