Me at 22 years old: sleeping on a couch and working at Tim Hortons. Dolan at 22: Cementing his status as the one of the World's most exciting new directors.

In parts, the narrative fumbles a bit, and it's a bit too long, but it doesn't matter. Laurence Anyways is a spectacular firework, and an incredibly mature film. I can't wait to see what more the young Dolan has to offer.

Take the age of the director out of it, take stunning camerawork, subtlety of the plot, it's chapters, the way it plays you, the music and Paupaud's acting, leave no credits to stylists and makeup artists and forget that you haven't blinked for the last 48 minutes and yet still this is not what you expect it to be.

Quite uneven, it gets long in many parts, but is brilliant in others (those generally being the ones where he just turns up the music).

a new error

This film depicts the love between a transgender woman and her woman lover over a span of nearly a decade. Suzanne Clement's performance was superb. This movie is wonderful. From the script to the setting to the music and costume and finally the characters. Instantly my favorite foreign film of this generation.

Found this to be an uneven mess, not particularly engaging and as a result tedious to get through.

Damn, Dolan sure is a talented little fucker, isn't he? This is obviously a lot more ambitious than his first two films, so it's forgivable if it also feels slightly unwieldy and overextended at times (there's always been a touch of precocious self-indulgence to Dolan, and this is no exception). The now-expected poetic flourishes have become a tad predictable and overdetermined in places, albeit still quite effective. Ditto the music cues (although that Blue Nile song sure is beautiful, right?)

Hey, this is a superintense love story. You've either got a tooth for that, or you don't. The characters are beautifully drawn, and the acting really lives up to them, offering one of the best portrayals of intimacy that I've seen in a while. I particularly enjoyed the small bits of surrealistic imagery, used to portray their emotions at times. I also loved the use of colors (especially the blues, with all their meanings). How come somebody aged 22 could put this all together?!

This was a big disappointment tbh, never got invested in the story.

This is my girlfriend's all-time favourite film, so I've discussed and dissected it a lot. It's certainly a good film and the acting, aesthetic and camerawork are all amazing, but, unlike Dolan's later work I feel the script lacks that extra layer of polish to push it into the "excellent" category, with a number of scenes that exist without seemingly adding anything to the story or characterization and at times awkward pacing. Still, its definitely worth a look.

Melvil Poupaud ve Suzanne Clément harika.

A little too long, but electrifying nonetheless, with a couple of the best performances of 2013 (especially the wonderful Suzanne Clement) and some filmmaking that is absolutely exhilarating. Wunderkind Xavier Dolan has an incredible knack for slow-motion scenes set to 80s dance tunes that I adore.

a bit disappointing after the first 2 masterpieces of Dolan... This one feels more like a "promosing debut" when compared to others...Good script, lovely camera work but the story is all over the place and there are pacing issues..

more mature than his first two features, however my least favorite of the three. but still, the fact that this was created by a 22-year-old is mind-boggling.
