Exceptionally shoddy work from an otherwise smart filmmaker. Ignoring the politics of the film, Wexler basically reuses the general plot outline from Medium Cool and plunks the characters into the Contras and Sandinistas. The problem is that the characters from Medium Cool are the worst part of it, and the Nicaraguan setting here only makes them worse. Sure it came out a year before the Tower Commission, but outside the political rage, the movie has as much inertia as a government report.
