The story has some weaknesses (not least in form of the overly precocious son), but every scene radiates humanity - and after having seen Ida and Cold War, it's impressive how good Pawlikowski is in color!

follows a woman and her son trapped in a refugee camp. little melodrama and no massive ups or downs, just social realism. also nice commentary on immigration laws.

I'm disappointed that Pawlikowski and Joffe decided to take the cliched love story route, which feels simultaneously contrived and false. I did enjoy the reflection upon 'Fortress Europe', and the UK's inane immigration policies, and would have appreciated the film much more had a silly love story not become the focus of the film's second act.

Slight, but quite charming tale of an old-fashioned courtship in the inhospitable setting of a refugee holding camp.

The actors and a [mostly] realistic script elevate some truly boring filmmaking.

This is like dry toast. Toast is nice & everything, even good, and when dry, takes a long time to get through. This hour and fifteen minutes goes on for a full two hours. Still the picture has a lot charm based on its cool location shoot, good lookin' stars, and random unpredictable scene sequence.
