Although it takes its liberties with actual history, the story of meaningless killing of young soldiers in WW2 is ever so important regardless of small fictional changes. Striking, thrilling and sad. Very simple, yet extremely tense, and very moving. Well written and superbly acted. A great film.

Solid movie on a little-known side of World War II, yet needs to go through too many variations to fill his runtime and follows a too predictable dramatic arc.

One of those movies that achieve fame thanks to their sensational subject matter, rather than their quality. The script is irredeemably hokey and often transparently manipulative. Zandvliet has no imagination and no sense of reality. The soundtrack is also in poor taste.

This was far from amazing, but even further from bad, just plain solid.

A very heavy and chilling movie, based on a depressing subject. Good child actors who gave a very convincing performance. Won't forget this movie any time soon.

A war movie excluding any “war scene” as well as featuring pure greatness, dignity and intensity within its each shot.

God, is it just me or all the European WW movies are equally bland and I need to force myself to care at all? Only one or two times it managed to do something that wasn't obvious from a mile away too. For example, if you've seen ten war films in your life, you know what happens after "oh, what are you going to do after the war?" "oh, man i will eat and drink and fuck" "and i will start a business, i dream about being.." dead, right?

Extremely grim, fairly unpredictable and great character development for a few characters. It’s a great film, even if it’s not always enjoyable.

The acting and cinematography are great, and it tells a story that hasn't been seen before. The biggest fault is that it's too damned predictable, making the movie less tense than it ought to be, taking place mostly in minefields. I'd recommend it to World War 2 buffs, like myself, but if war doesn't interest you, you can pass without regret.

Absolutely harrowing story of prisoners of war forced into an unreasonably cruel punishment. Beautifully directed and portrayed and set against the backdrop of a picturesque beach to counterpoint the horror. Just an all around fantastic film that should remind the "Good Side" we weren't without fault. MINOR SPOILERS: And they didn't even get to the glimpse of the even more horrifying part at the end.

An important movie, telling the story how Denmark relentlessly used German child soldiers to clean up their beaches of landmines after the war. Heart wrenching seeing youth get blown-up like that. Apparently that happened to 50% of the 2000 German prisoners used for this task. Revenge is cold.
