I found this a surprisingly moving and mysterious film. While it does sound like and kind of is a bit of a Lolita type tale, it's not entirely sexually provocative or explicitly graphic.tacky. I thought the young child actor gave a very good performance, she's very emotive and there's some good dialogue present. There's also some good cinematography present, with nice sweeping landscapes. I'd recommend it, yes, for Oona's performance if not for anything else. It may stay with you for a while.

I saw this movie months ago but forgot to rate it. I can't remember much but I think I liked it.

Two lost souls, one a middle-aged man (Ross Partridge) and one a young girl (Oona Laurence), form a bond and take a trip to his childhood vacation home in the mountains, but the unorthodox nature of their friendship precludes its survival. Haunting, thought-provoking little character drama, with an excellent performance from Laurence and a solid one from Partridge, whose direction and script (from Bonnie Nadzam's novel) are likewise impressive. Little seen, it deserves wider attention.

Ross Partridge's adaptation of Bonnie Nadzam novel is basically Lolita for 2015 without much of a background build-up. An older man takes a 11 year old child for a road trip under the false cover guardianship. Fairly innocently done, clean enough for western sensitivities, almost a nice coming of age film the way it comes off, but it's very clear the motives the way he manipulates and apologizes to her. Weather he does anything physically to her or not is left unsaid.

Tale about a 47 year old man and an 11 year old girl. I mean strange and weird can be good things if you can eventually figure out what's going on--which sadly I wasn't able to do in this case. I get that he's trying to help her, and they make a connection, but he doesn't have a firm enough grip on reality or maturity to be such a mentor. I couldn't even be sure which one is the title character. (Not to be confused with a title by the same name and year directed by Yared Zeleke.)

Just wow. Oona Laurence will be a star in the future.

This features many of the most forgettable aspects of the prevailing American indie paradigm. Directed by the main actor, a first-timer, the dialogue never feels like anything other than words on a white page. It's about a man whose father dies and decides to kidnap a young girl and teach her some lessons about life or some shit, I don't know. It's supposed to be some uncomfortable yet touching 'unconventional love story' but give me a break. It's a slog.
