La passion de Dodin Bouffant

"The Pot-au-Feu" is a beautifully seasoned film, masterfully directed by Tran Anh Hung, with standout performances from Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel. Jonathan Ricquebourg's cinematography adds a sensual touch, capturing the intimate and expansive kitchen and garden spaces. While the film's focus on culinary exploits is engaging, its lack of traditional plotlines, limited character development, and absence of conflict may leave some viewers craving more depth.

As a vegetarian, the food in The Taste of Things doesn't appeal to me, but I am captivated by the film's quiet, poetic atmosphere. It’s always inspiring to witness people mastering the art forms they are passionate about. I hope that one day, we’ll see a film that celebrates vegan cuisine with the same depth and artistry.

Very tasteful and pompous movie. Peaceful scenes of cooking and observing late French summer should not have such a big effect. And yet, they have.

So masterfully directed you can almost taste it -- both what they exquisitely cook, nearly in real time, and the love they cultivate for each other, when they are not cooking or talking about food. You might argue it's a bit stretched, and it really is, specially after Binoche's character passes away, but it's impossible to ignore its strenghts -- like Ricquebourg's cinematography capturing every kitchen detail with vivid textures, Eugénie's disease and Dodin's despair with opaque colors.

Food is not easy, and people are harder. Hopelessly waiting for a recipe that never came. Biggest pluses: Grand direction gastronomique and yummy art direction. And Juliette.

The organic rhythm of this film proves to be even more nourishing than it's sensory delights. Perfectly balances beauty and morbidity in its tone and in doing so captures the essence of human passion.

Perfect - this film felt like it accomplished exactly what it sought out to do, and did so… with taste.

My mouth was literally agape for most of the first half-hour. I am an absolute sucker for culinary cinema this blatantly pornographic, and enthusiasts of Babette’s Feast or Eat Drink Man Woman will not want to miss this one. The act of making food is inherently emotional to me as is, but this is also sumptuously romantic enough to make me swoon at regular intervals.

Lovely, some great lines, beautiful imagery. Probably the best food film I've seen and it's more than that
