Abel Gance was known for his super ambitious and innovative movies during the silent era. For one of the first major French talkies he tries to continue in the same theme when the financial backers got scared and demolished the project. Based on a dramatic story of a comet coming straight at earth, the road to human desperation doesn't come off well. BUT.... the last 10 minutes of chaos, noise, orgies and religious prayer are among the most remarkable moments in 1930s French cinema!!!
