If Jean Cocteau and Val Lewton collaborated on a movie about the Cathars, this would be it: unique, tasteful, beautifully shot, poetic, morbid, and a bit dull, it would make a perfect triple feature with Lewton's Seventh Victim and I Walked With A Zombie. A real oddity, and exactly the kind of film I'm hoping Criticker will clue me into.

The sense of horror and mystique was lurking heavily, but in a way it becomes a mishmash of ideas that doesn't accumulate to the grand terrifying scheme crafted here. Definitely has it's appeal, but should have left a much stronger impression considering what they had going for them.
