La cigarette

Has a very fleeting quality, that is appropriate to the film. But ahh, thats pretty much my 'impression'.

the scenes where the film was damaged are magical beyond words. love love love it

Very straightforward compared to her later work, unless those really distorted images are actually a deliberate surrealist ploy rather than just a poor film restorer doing what they can to salvage as much of a 100-year-old film as possible. Still, there's a wickedness to that idea.

That's an unusual suicidal idea! Fits right in with the type of bizarre stuff pioneering female director Germaine Dulac did during her decade in silents. La cigarette [The Cigarette] (1919) might actually be my favorite from hers, though I'm not the biggest fan of her work. Not super amazing or anything, but a weirdly intriguing story.
