A Norman McLaren lullaby on film about the little grey hen who nests in the church, the little brown hen who nests in the moon, and others. Photographed from pastel drawings, the transient images express the dreamy mood of this old French song. (nfb.ca)

It's basically chickens and eggs and stars. The paintings are very pretty because McLaren was a talented guy, but he's certainly done much better than this in his 50-year-old career, both before and after the chickens (e.g. "Dots" from 1940 and "Begone Dull Care" from 1949 - two films elevated a lot by their sense of beat, something sadly missing from this one). I enjoyed the final chicken though, the one riding the moon #badass #thug_life

I like what McLaern does visually with the transitions, but the music is kind of dull even if the song is fitting.

Enhanced optical experiment at the extreme. I wish the image played on was more interesting, i.e. not chicken.

Back to the chicken fixation of Hen Hop, but in a much improved context. Gorgeously rendered pastel drawings provide constantly surprising transformations. Nice framing device, too.
