Nice to see Ruiz go out on a high note. A fitting career summery that almost plays like a Ruiz greatest hits compilation, presenting all of his familiar stylistic traits and thematic elements from his best films in a slightly more digestible (if still typically abstruse) form, with the added poignancy of his own impending mortality. Its tempting to compare it to Zerkalo or certain late-period Godard films, but Ruiz was so much his own thing that it feels sort of unfair to do so.

Incomprehensible, pseudointellectual rubbish.

Difficult to parse. Every time I thought I had a grasp of what was happening, the narrative would slip through my fingers. Clearly this is by design and the movie succeeds in having a very dream-like ethereal quality. Still the themes of confronting death and the passage of time shone through. Interesting visuals, characters, performances, and turns in the story kept me engaged throughout.
