La Classe operaia va in paradiso

The genius of Volonté carries this. I mean, it's a good script about striking factory workers (while nothing like the genius of Monicelli's The Organizer), and has other great actors like Melato and Randone, but cinematographer Luigi Kuveiller seems to know that all the action is right on Volonte's inflamed, sweaty face.

The proletariat will never win, because we are all individualists, and we have reasons to be. This is a sad life for proletariats, but there are no chance to improve it. Maybe in the next life. A disenchanted film by a declared communist.

There's not much going on from a technical standpoint, but there's a lot going on pretty much everywhere else. Here's another film about radicalism against the moderateness of liberalism, all wrapped around some half-formed musing that suggest biopolitics. Capitalism makes man a machine. Men make women their machines. Sort of amazing.

Em honra do centenário de Ugo Pirro, um dos grandes roteiristas políticos da era de ouro do cinema italiano. Isso representa tanto o trabalhador entre as picuinhas intelectuais das esquerdas, o movimento estudantil e os sindicalismos, que levam às raias da perda da saúde mental e tudo é feito de forma tão brilhante, especialmente aquele final que não é à toa que este é um dos maiores clássicos da condição operária desde sempre. The lead gives a fine performance, and the score is memorable. Difficult to watch, however. I usually don't mind subtitles, but this movie has more dialogue than the better Investigation of a citizen above suspicion.
