A nice and unique short. The animation style is pretty and its message is worthwhile. The slow pacing is very appropriate for the subject, but it's still a bit longer than it should be.

Its shows the true potential of romantic-age mankind. Materialism and modernism make us forget our roots to the nature and our basic abilities over nature and with in nature. That great short-animation shows that. The path of happiness, harmony and peace.

My favorite piece of animation, hands down. Director Federic Back portrays the simple parable with tenderness and an eye toward the simple grandeur that exists in a life devoted to others. The dialogue is wonderfully placed throughout, the animation has an ethereal quality that witnesses to some greater mystery surrounding the action, and the story richly portrays a movement from the barren to the lush, from death to life. Beautiful.

Quietly satisfying. Has a way of staying with you for a long time afterwards

Narrator: "But when I consider the passionate determination and the unfailing generosity of spirit that took to achieve this end, I am filled with admiration for this old unlearned peasant who was able to complete a task worthy of God. Elzéard Bouffier died peacefully in Banon in 1947."

Slow but somewhat captivating. The art style while not a favorite of mine gave the film a fairy tale quality to it.

Great animation. The story is nice but somewhat manipulative: the fact that some fought against the German invasion to allow Elzéard Bouffier to carry his project, the idealization of post WWII life in Provence at the end... I'm afraid of the message someone could take away from this story in the 21st century.

Very soothing voice-over and animation, perhaps inducing nostalgia for the times you were read stories like this as a kid, a phase in life during which the plot wouldn't have been composed out of qualities now considered mostly uninteresting.

Nicely done little tale with an ecological theme or, more abstractly, about the power of the human spirit. Rather sentimental in a way that clearly appeals to many audiences, although the mistaken belief that the story is true may have increased the appeal for some viewers.

Shockingly boring and dry narration supported by the film's antithetical style. What I don't get is; if you're going to show the wonder of nature, then why not just show it rather than represent it through this stupid dissolving paintings?

The slow pacing is never boring in a quite delicate, sensitive piece of animation.

Mesmerizing both aurally and visually. It doesn't contain any conflict but sort of flows with a dream-like quality that never gets boring.
