The business tycoon Nicolas Saccard is nearly ruined by his rival Gunderman, when he tries to raise capital for his company. Quite good and way ahead of its time insofar as camera movement and editing, etc, but the plot is pretty convoluted/unclear at times and I didn't really get particularly into it. The machinations of high finance are not an easy sell.

Although aesthetically beautiful and technically stunning, I was struggling to get invested in the characters and story.

The story is far from gripping (nowadays at least) but the energetic camera movements, well-cast actors and some cool individual moments compensate for it.

Some stunning cinematography, with a surprisingly mobile camera. And the performances are generally quite good, and the story has some compelling human drama. But I agree with the one negative review on IMDb: the movie plods. The first hour is loaded down with a lot of not-very-interesting business deals. It sets the stage for the rivalry between Saccard and Gunderman, but we don't need to see this much. I cared a lot about the characters, but still I was fighting boredom. I'll take the Bresson.
