L'Amant

Very gorgeous underrated film about taboo love, colonialism, and classism in early 20th century Asia.

Because the tone is probably true to the novel and everything is already set in stone in the past, the desire for traditional conflict rarely surfaces - it's more of a soft, pensive elegy to a love affair and to a time in Saigon when a girl was growing up with the burden her family placed on her. Bertolucci could have directed this, only to be similarly pounced on by critics who prefer their sensuality a bit more intellectual.

Impossible not feel his love and fascination during the story, and her love in the final scene. Super !!!

Erotic with very elegant and beautiful photography

Strongest argument I’ve ever seen for why 17 is maybe totally ok. This film is so beautiful in its photography, and the voice over + adr sells the feel of the time period. To quote from Lolita “The trouble was that those gentleman had not, and I had, caught glimpses of an incomparably more poignant bliss.” Message of the film is this: "Women are naturally whores, and that's pretty cool actually." Marriage marks the end of that rigamarole. S-tier family viewing.

L'Amant, izlediğim en tutku dolu filmlerden biri. İki karakter arasındaki çekimin, arzunun ve duygunun gücü o kadar yoğun ki, rahatça hissediyorsunuz. Dönemin kültürel / sınıfsal farklılıkları ve etkileri de çok iyi işleniyor. Ayrıca Jeanne Moreau'yu dış seste dinlemek harikaydı.

The scenes here are very beautiful, but the voiceover-heavy story and reminiscing doesn't quite live up to them
