Kuso is an artsy kind of anthology horror film. One built upon the pretense that the purest, most distilled type of horror is disgust, a wildly misguided intent, but it certainly is disgusting. But it also makes absolutely no sense, has miserable writing, some segments are downright idiotic, like several minutes of terrible beat poem, supposedly giving the backstory that ties the movie together. The fact is, it's abundantly clear Flying Lotus didn't care about the quality, just the gross factor.

Good cinematography, interesting designs, and a few decent laughs, but mostly really goddamn boring

I had a lot of fun with this, I can see some people hating it completely but I had quite the entertaining ride through the grotesque and absurd here. Safe to say many other films will not recapture the same experience I had watching this, very unique and ugly.

I'm quite disappointed that this isn't a single feature-length film, but fuck it, it was a wild ride. Mister Quiggles was my favourite segment. Last year, I went to a preview screening of Royals, hosted by Flylo and David Firth, and they provided us with cool barfbags, which ultimately proved to be useless.

I like this in theory more than in practice. Unapologetically disgusting, taboo-shattering, surreal, satirical of modern media and culture, inspired by filmmakers I like and made with genuine creativity and care (there's some gnarly effects and there's a real sense of unfettered creative freedom that is great to see). Then why is it so boring? It's just too long to sustain itself, with too many interstitial bumpers to pad the runtime and a sense of spinning its wheels after a while.

Yawn-inducingly bland in it's futile attempt to shock. Never manages to elicit an emotion besides embarresment for all the infantile fart-jokes. Dope Soundtrack though.

Like a drawn out FlyLo music video. About what I expected but tough to rate. A passive aggressive "75" it is...

There is definitely a difference in quality between the stories. Some scenes were really enjoyable while others were just boring, unfunny, and pointless. I mean, what can have a point in an acid fueled gross-out body horror comedy? Well, not a lot; but it can be entertaining at least. The first 30 minutes almost had me turn it off. It did get a good deal better though afterwards.

Gets mileage out of just about every taboo and phobia. It's a fatalistic comment on urbanity and decency, depicting not a dystopia that's arisen from Promethean technology, but from humanity's own accelerating depravity. It sources from torture porn, Miike, Lynch, Cronenberg and Tim & Eric, but it's decidedly postmodern in its surrealism. It vacillates between low humor and meticulously designed gore, but, in fleeting moments, it even touches real profundity--if you can hear past the farts.
