The drama directed by Toivo Särkä and Yrjö Norta is based on Eino Railo's novel of the same name. In the film adaptation, set in 1930s Ostrobothnia, the Ylitalo sisters live a summer full of love. Rampant but cheerful Eliina (Ansa Ikonen) likes the high school student Yrjö (Jorma Nortimo), while the heart of the divine Johanna (Ester Toivonen) beats for childhood friend Huhdan Aksel (Eino Kaipainen).

Several approaches to love. One about a crippled girl simply looking for short term bliss, and her elder sister who is in love with her childhood friend, but has a riches suitor her father wants her to marry. So there is a lot of jealous men fighting and drenched melodrama. And what makes it work are strong characters. While a lot of it is exaggerated and corny, it's always presented with a serious approach and you get to appreciate the people in it.
