"Crucial Years" is only one of many 1960s films about disaffected adult-children (European baby-boomers, in general) fooling around, especially in the Czech New Wave (partly inspired by the French), but it is among the most intense and eccentric and grittiest. Its hero is a fire-hose of puerile antics aimed at any and all serious emotions around him. It's so intensely light-hearted as to be difficult. Jakubisko himself may have outdone it with the even bolder "Birds, Orphans and Fools".
