Felt like they were mimicking a Carl Theodor Dreyer movie. There was some wonderful minimalist darkness to this heavy drama, and the slow and precise dialogue helped set the mood. However, the narrative structure didn't hit home with me, as with the story, even if it did have a point to make about abuse and how it affects children. I can easily see this as a underappreciated gem of classic Danish cinema regardless of how the experience was for me.
