Freeman and Judd arrive for this ready to play, and you keep hoping that the compelling characterisations of their characters will redeem this ungainly, overlong hybrid of LAMBS and SE7EN, but the overly familiar material, combined with two other key casting choices which essentially give the game away, means this sputters out fairly quickly and early. A largely overqualified supporting cast helps keep things watchable.

Freeman and Judd are so good, you almost wish they'd chosen not to make a thriller at all, had just discovered a way to create a drama really sinking their teeth into their characterizations. All things considered, I would've preferred that movie.

The fatal flaw of the film isn't in the production values or quality casting, but in the plot of the story itself, which spends far more time teasing us than in delivering anything remotely plausible, or at the very least, intelligent enough to live up to the standards of the actors.

Promising at first - Mr. Freeman is assuring from the beginning and the film sets out to build a political racial and gender framework for the story - but quickly revealing itself as a really badly scripted and sloppily constructed thriller with an utterly uncharismatic killer.

What, another strong independent female character before feminism became cool? Who would've thought... Joke aside, the film attempts to create a Seven-esque atmosphere of palpable doom and incoming unavoidable darkness, but - nothing surprising - doesn't achieve it. Still, there were a couple of tense scenes that had my heart racing wildly, so kudos for that. Very forgettable however - a few months after seeing this I have troubles remembering anything to be honest.

Borrowing heavily from _The Silence of the Lambs_ and _Se7en_, this psycho-killer thriller falls far short of both.

I’m surprised at the reviews that consider Judd and Freeman performances good. Morgan Freeman is just doing his usual appearance, nothing interesting or special. Ashley Judd is trying to act the hell out of her scenes but she just isn’t a very good actor. It has to be disappointing to both actors that the movie ultimately is relatively disappointing.

Both Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd give good performances in this film. The script is typical of this genre, not a lot of real surprises but it does have good moments. The chemistry of the actors is the main reason to watch this movie. Overall I would recommend this film.

Solid suspense surrounding a kidnap & escape & 2 great leads made for a compelling first half. It's a team-up I was eager to watch. However, the 2nd half stacks implausibilities w/ Patterson(?) trying to outdo other serial killer stories by partnering 2 (!!) psychos (while never really unnerving the viewer) & following template w/ a red herring-albeit, in the highly unlikely form of an academic who's so certain he won’t go to jail, he launches into a killer-like tirade despite his sorted history

To make a thriller like this watchable, I expect more excitement in the detective and chasing scenes. Oh well... Judd and Freeman are good even though it felt like they'd both played that character before ;-) *Recommendable

I guessed the twist about 20 minutes in. If I managed it you probably can too which, given how heavily it relies upon the twist, is not good news.

I enjoyed the first few Patterson "Cross" novels but this felt pretty boring translated to film. Morgan Freeman was good though.

From the opening credits which almost put me to sleep, the picture fails to be interesting at all. Well, the lead girl is cute refuses victim status & has a decent fight scene at the end.

It's a pretty average "cops chasing a serial killer" thriller, but a couple of strong acting performances and a really creepy lair where the collector keeps his trophies stick in the memory.

Another STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN movie starring Ashley Judd, sprinkled with some Cary Elwes overacting. And Morgan Freeman is wise and sage-like. And there's a pointless and nonsensical twist, I guess. Yep, nothing predictable here.
