Kiss and Make-Up

Viewed March 21, 2022. A flashy comedy about miracle-working plastic surgeon Cary Grant and the patients that fall in love with him. It's commonly stated that Cary Grant didn't come into his own until he made The Awful Truth, but I think his performances in these early movies are generally good and bear many similarities to his legendary persona. I think his material just got a lot better when he started working with Leo McCarey and Howard Hawks instead of whoever Harlan Thompson is.

"Kiss and Make-Up" is a relatively light comedy piece, but I felt there was a underlining genius about it that with a better director could have made this one into a classic with only small adjustments. Cary Grant is a beautician who's only focus is making every woman into a perfect beauty. But that backfired on him as he falls for one of his patience and gets to feel how it is to have a beauty excessive wife with all the inconvenience that may bring.
