A masterpiece of writing, utilizing mainly dialogue-based humour with everything from the daftly absurd to the more smart-alecky jokes thrown in and delivery to die for from Downey Jr. and Kilmer, both on career-best form. This is a cool, smart, very stylish, hysterically funny, deceptively convoluted, genre-conscious tribute to noir and buddy/action-comedies. One of those bring-to-a-deserted-island type movies for the entertainment and sheer rewatchability.

I actually really liked this. Shane Black proves why he's a writer and director to look out for. There are some great shots and pretty cinematography that make it feel like some solid neo-noir homage. The writing is just hilarious. It's dark, funny, and boasting great thrills and acting from its three leads, all of whom are at their best here. A great time and worth watching if you get around to it. Stop multiplying!

Perhaps my favorite movie of 2005, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was unfortunately plagued by horrible publishing, advertising, and lack of theatres on its opening day so it completely tanked, despite its small 15 million$ budget. Shane Black's exceptional directing skills and script absolutely shine here. Robert Downey Jr. delivers his best performance of all time and along with Shane Black's script make even scenes that would normally be distrubing very paletteble. A great throwback to the 80s action

The film has many, many strengths, but those wouldn't exist without its absolute ownership of its own absurdities. It leans in to every manic and wild and preposterous twist and turn, every homage and red herring, which then gives the actors the safety to run the fuck wild. It's a career highlight for everyone and most importantly a damn fun movie to boot.

Robert Downey Jr. instantaneously swung into the forefront of my acting radar with this superbly entertaining crime comedy / thriller. The interplay between him and Val Kilmer is brilliant and the dialogue absurdly witty. The use of narration is superb. My only gripe might be the lack of development for the villain, but it's easily one of 2005's best, and one of the most tragically underseen movies of the last decade.

A dark comedic-noir with, clearly, hints of NGs & LWeapon but also Big Lebowski, LS&2SB + Snatch. MM keeps comedic pace & elevates role above just 'babe' & damn HOT. Plot & resolution all solid but secondary 2 sparking hilarious antics & banter. Is clever-clever, in love with itself but = part of fun Not just wry, FULL-ON FUNNY?

I just found out this film was a pretty big box office flop. How the FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN? Easily the funniest I saw from 2005, if not best overall. It's fantastic and would possibly make my top 10 most rewatchable films of all time. RDJ and Val Kilmer (who would guessed?) are both amazing. That same year the Longest Yard made 10 times this movies total domestic gross on opening weekend. I even enjoy Sandler films, but that fact disgusts and depresses me. This movie is awesome.

Shane Black has written has some exceptional films in the past, and well, here's another one. Downey makes the intrusive narration welcome, and Kilmer does an amazing job of playing a morally questionable character in a charismatic way. It carries the atmosphere of the classic pulp novels that figure into the plot even though it's completely modern, which is no small achievement. Like Black's past films, it's as engaging as an action film throughout, thanks to the dialogue and pacing.

A postmodern detective story. It doesn't fully break the fourth wall until the end (discounting narration, of course), but all the way through, this action comedy is loaded with winks to show it knows it's a movie, and is having fun with it. Kilmer gives his best performance in years (though I liked him in Spartan), and the RDJ career revival starts here. Black's script (and subsequent direction) is devilishly clever and fun as hell. I love this movie.

A very clever script, perhaps a little too clever for its own good. The winking at the audience and the "hey guys, isn't this just like a movie?" remarks get obnoxious by the end. Other than that it's a fun film. I liked the opening credits a lot. Downey Jr. captures his role very well, Kilmer is pretty good too. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this. If Black can make a franchise out of the godfuckingawful Lethal Weapon series, he can do something with these more interesting characters.

This movie is really all over the place and seems to split it's focus between mocking Hollywood showbiz and satirizing the film noir genre. This movie is both cool and hilarious. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer give some of the best performances of their careers and Michelle Monaghan is also extremely good. Shane Black, who had a hand in writing several of the 90's biggest action one-liner fests, makes his directorial debut off of his own screenplay and he did a hell of a job with it.

RDJ makes every movie ridiculously fun, and this is probably the best example of that. You can't even PRETEND to be bored during this flick, it's just so damn entertaining. And the more you sit back and look at it, everything this movie attempts, it succeeds at. Downey and Kilmer have great chemistry, the narration is witty and hilarious, it achieves a perfect level of self-awareness, teetering on 4th wall breaking, and the noir plot itself is actually phenomenally good.

Solid movie. Robert Downey Jr. is awesome in everything. This movie was sort of like a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode: Every single person has the exact same sense of humor, sarcasm, and idiosyncrasies... so it got a little tiring after (random side character #7) starts picking apart (random side character #6)'s wording (just like the main characters have been doing to each other). It's like all the actors were 1 character: the writers. Oh, and the whole narration seemed a little forced.

A clowningly meta yet strictly classic noir and an exceptionally glib movie\. Downey and Kilmer make perhaps the funniest, sharpest, least expected, most inspired buddy pair-up of the 2000s. Monaghan more than a desperate attempt to make her more than a love interest. She has her quirks, her backstory, her own way of communicating things, and she and the guys are naturally drawn together as two hasty, razor-sharp wits that can match each other.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a very enjoyable experience. It has excellent dialogue, interesting characters, enough genre subversions to keep things fresh, and three terrific performances from its main actors. The story twists and turns, and it doesn't take the time to explain itself to viewers who watch movies passively. While I'm not sold on the convoluted and clichéd nature of some of the story beats, they're easy to give a pass to because of how good the film surrounding them is.

Crazy story of Hollywood opportunities, lost dreams and murder. Robert Downey Jr is convincing as the thief with a shot at acting. Val Kilmer played an odd role as a gay detective. Michelle Monaghan is great in her sexy performance as the aloof failed actress. Hollywood will occasionally come up with these self-aware self-referential industry films that seem infatuated mostly with the writer's ability to spin a caper about LA show biz. In this case everything comes together though with a great combination of Kilmer and Downey Jr. who are definitely an odd couple, It's a bit too clever for its own good but also downright hilarious at times. I can't say much for the plot since that's just a backdrop to seeing these actors obviously having fun.
