Kin-Dza-Dza

If Terry Gilliam had made this it would be a Western cult classic by now. It certainly feels like something he might have dreamt up. A great mix of dystopian sci-fi, hidden depths and absurd humour. I'm not sure how much is lost in the translation from Russian I still found it hugely enjoyable.

Quite interesting, amusing, and imaginative for the most part, but gets draggy after the intermission and isn't really the biting social satire it's made out to be. Daneliya would have done better to cut it about 40 minutes shorter.

As a comedy I found it rarely funny, bordering on annoying, while as a Sci-Fi what was rather baffling early later bubbles with allegorical depth. The first half is a trial, with the characters at their most slappable (conserve the matches, cockhead!) and things moving slowly. Later there is a lot more substance, yet I'll be honest and say my lack of ideological knowledge held me back in fully grasping what was being lampooned. A worthwhile watch, but also rather infuriating.

First act was so promising, but then again I don't speak Russian. A little longer than it should be for my taste.

I have to say that because this film was SO out of this place I should give a pretty good score. It was one of it's kind. I liked the first half. Most of it. The bell on nose was a good invention. But let's be honest about it. The latter part was pretty painful to watch. It was really boring. Pay attention on the short alien guy, Evgeniy Leonov. He's the voice of the brilliant Russian Winnie the Pooh. A brilliant actor. Recommend to see with aged Russian viewer.

Just another barely-there-commentary wrapped in a dull pseudo-scifi movie.

The comedy doesn't always hit but I found it pretty funny and it lends the film another layer of surrealism. The Sci-fi is fun and the allegory on class relations blunt but still really creative. All in all a very enjoyable and unique film.

Interesting premise but apparently not as fun or clever if you don't speak russian.

Em honra de Georgiy Daneliya (1930 - 2019). Ótima sátira ao capitalismo que soa especialmente peculiar aos nativos de lingua portuguesa pelo excesso de cus que a gente tem que escutar. Strangers in the cu... DVDRip no MakingOff.

It's 2 hours long but for some reason it felt like 5 hours. First half is pretty dull, things get better on the second half. Overall it''s weird and unique rather than funny.

it took me a couple years to get a hold of this movie, and i'm fairly glad i did. pretty much all of the social commentary is lost on anyone who doesn't speak russian, but the good news is that it's a pretty stand up sci-fi comedy movie anyway, especially if you're receptive to a splash of cheesy 80's special effects.
