Another movie to add to the list of movies I wish Robert De Niro never made.

The all-time great films that possess the truest virtues of the cinematic form are the ones that compel us to ask questions. Deep questions. Questions like: is there a God? Where does evil come from? Is John Travolta's hairline real?

I will torture you, no I will torture YOU. And so on. Bonus points for Travolta's beard and accent.

Sets the record for how many times the tables can turn during a film.

De Niro & Travolta in a 2013 two-hander? A sub-90 minute job I'd never heard of?? JT sporting a Serbian accent?!? This is gonna be AWFUL! Well, it's not. A bit daft and silly yes - a swinging 'tables turned' scene dragged out to feature-length - but the writing, direction and performances are earnest, and it has enough to keep you interested throughout. In fact, the uncertainty of what's gonna happen when Kovac first befriends Ford is actually pretty tense. I've seen many worse films than this.

It's bad, but not unwatchable bad. If you have really nothing to watch anymore, give this a shot. Just for laughs.

Cinematic equivalent of elevator music or wallpaper. Bad, but not in any especially egregious or noticeable way, with one already oft-commented exception - Travolta's accent. Amazing that a character with such a "thick n' pasty" Balkans accent (it's actually more faux-Russian) nevertheless speaks every line perfectly and never drops a word or makes a grammatical mistake.

(Viewed on 08/02/14): What should have been a tight and tense psychological action-thriller about the traumatic affect of war on its participants ends up a silly game of cat and mouse with zero suspense. Travolta's Serbian accent is laughable, one of the worst movie accents ever, and his beard looks painted out. For a film that takes itself as seriously as this, it was an incredibly dumb move. If McTiernan directed this in 1995 it could have worked, but this is low grade DTV fare.

Those who claim De Niro is less horrible than Travolta are not looking at it objectively. After the promising setup it all goes quite steeply downhill.

Horrible movie. De Niro is acceptable, (how could he not be?) but Travoltas accent is completely off, and storyline is boring as hell. Half way during the movie I lost count on how many times the table had turned. - Bad.

De Niro! Travolta! Bows and arrows! The wilderness! A rip of that long-forgotten (but cool) Benicio Del Toro/Tommy Lee Jones joint THE HUNTED (right down to the Johnny Cash songs on the soundtrack), only it tries to hit us with a Message in addition to the mano a mano ultraviolence. A Message about War, about Brotherhood, about Man's Inhumanity to Man, about overbaked phony accents. The first half hour's effective enough to make us wish it'd given us more violence and less Messaging.

This movie would have been pretty good if it wasn't for one GIANT distraction. John Travolta's terrible accent. It honestly ruined any sort of dramatic tension in the film. De Niro did an excellent job and really Travolta's character was neat, but man, that accent is unforgivable. I would say this movie earns a solid rated R just for violence. The arrow through the cheek was pretty graphic. The ending was a little strange and I'm not fully sure how one of the characters lived. Still confused.

De Niro's likability and some nice nature photography are about all the positives I can take out of this. Everything John Travolta does in this film is a nightmare. His performance, his haircut, and especially his horrendous accent all do terrible damage to this, another 'special' film in the canon of Mark Steven Johnson, also responsible for 'Ghost Rider' and 'Daredevil.' Stop making movies, Mr. Johnson!

Aside from showing once more that accomplished hollywood-actors obviously do not read their scripts anymore (or simply don't care as long as they're paid), this movie's "plot" is so insignificant, even its protagonists can't help but resign in the end. There is no relatable character, in fact you hate both and want them to just drop dead, and their laughable back and forth torture game is tiring and without consequence...makes you wonder if anyone besides a robot ever saw it pre release.
