Killer Legends

Mostly, it's (Very) shoddy true crime research using urban legends as an excuse. "Let's investigate this random unsolved babysitter murder implying that it is the origin of the 'When a stranger calls' myth". Maybe so many of these legends exist in these forms because, just like summer camp slashers, they arrange scenarios in which teens are left without adult supervision? No fun in that. Then there's some clown stuff at the end that isn't horrible but doesn't really fit. idk.

Sorry but this sort of Documentary seems to me more a Found Footage/Hand Held fiction film to me. There is no almost Horror and, the way I see it, it is not serious. Watchable and not boring, though.

I think Zeman is a good documentarian, however, I think this format doesn't suit him as much as Cropsey's does. While this is a little more based in research than Cropsey, it doesn't deliver the blows that it does, which in the end leaves Killer Legends a lot less entertaining. I'd love to see more singular cases from him.

An entertaining true crime anthology with some folklore themes and heavy-handed narration that would make Robert Stack blush.

The stories are so interesting but the filmmakers are just a fucking horrible screen presence.

It's less about sensationalizing the crimes shown in the film than the reasons we concoct urban legends to help us cope with extreme deviance. Fans of the true crime genre may not like the discussion-to-damp-prose ratio, but amateur social scientists will find something they like here. I would have liked it a little more if it wasn't also trying to scare the shit out of me with horror movie music and theatrics at the same time.

I like everything about this. The ominous mood, the feeling of looking through an old almanac, the campfire horror x real horror discussion, the heartbreaking stories... It treats horror with the respect it deserves. I wish more horror movie writers would do the same.
