Kid

A guy wants to leave his small town on Long Island, but a number of odd events keep him from leaving. The typical Hartley sense of dread is here, mixed with a hope that has been (is being?) buried under the crushing reality that "this place" is all there will ever be. This leaves Ned at once both "here" and "not here," caught in a malaise of hopelessness and despair, even as he offers to help those around him.
