Sloane in the original was holding back he could rip Tong Po in half with his abs alone while never surrendering. 2016 Sloane spends the entire movie getting the shit kicked out of him then is just suddenly kinda okay and lucks out in fighting Tong Po. Scenes of VERY MILD Van-Dammage. Bautista looks as Asian as my butt.

Typical modern B-action movie that tries to live off the 80s cool of the original. The positives are Jean-Claude Van Damme seemingly enjoying visiting his roots and Dave Bautista as the monster the generic white guy with muscles had to fight. I rooted for the former pro-wrestler, of course. At least he had a presence. The rest is random cheesy stuff that didn't come across all that well.

Wanted more goddamn Damme-splits nut punches. Needed more slow-mo roundhouse-to-the-brain-crash-to-the-bloodsands death scenes. Was given poorly-lit dojos, poorly-drawn dueling circles, hard-wax man-buns, whippy-whip licorice-dreads, and faded Chinese pec-tats.

Stop with the damn shaky cam. There is a thing called a tripod that holds the camera for you.

Kickboxer was my favorite film growing up and i was really excited about watching this. Not because i had high expactaions but because it's a simple but great story and they really had a chance to make this great 30 years later. Everything about this movie was so bad.. the story was worse than the original, the acting was way worse (for real) and the fighting scenes was poor as well. Jcvd can just stop making movies for the sake of the audience.

First off this is not a great movie, hell it's not even a good movie but it is decent. Now the thing is, this will never be able to compete with the original, which itself is not a good movie...many people love it and the new one wisely didn't try too hard to copy it. This is a re imagining of the original more than it is a remake, in fact story wise is bares more in common with Kickboxer 2 than it does the original and I found that it was better than all of the

Nobody in this was cast for their acting talents. The hero is extremely bland, van Damme showing up as his trainer and Bautista as the "invincible" bad guy haver more screen presence luckily. The plot is basic martial-arts fare being a remake after all. Where it counts most, the fights, it does a adequate enough job.

Van Damme playing Martial Arts master role and Dave Bautista is performing villain role in the movie. The story follows Eric and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a California dynasty of champions. After Eric wins the Karate World Championship, he is lured to Thailand by a promoter - despite protests from his brother. When this eventually leads to Eric's death, Kurt turns to Eric's former trainer Master Durand to take revenge on the cruel Tong Po.

When nostalgia meets bad taste and fan service, you get this.

Makes you really appreciate the mediocrity of the original and the relative quality of JCVD there by being so much worse in every possible way.
