Half-breed Keoma (Franco Nero) returns to his border hometown after service in the Civil War and finds it under the control of Caldwell, an ex-Confederate raider, and his vicious gang of thugs. To make matters worse, Keoma's three half-brothers have joined forces with Caldwell, and make it painfully clear that his return is an unwelcome one. Determined to break Caldwell and his brothers' grip on the town, Keoma partners with his father's former ranch hand to exact violent revenge. (imdb)

Keoma turns out to be a pretty tedious movie. Not because of its themes. Not because of the visual language. Least of all because of Franco Nero. Watching this movie feels like someone edited together three or four episodes of a Keoma TV show. It's like someone took a bunch of interesting conecpts, stripped them of most of what makes them interesting, cut them up and put the pieces beside each other randomly on a plate. Plus, it ends on an ultra childish and dickish move on his part.

A surreal and violent end to the spaghetti western cycle. Dreadful soundtrack, though.

My two cents on the soundtrack: it sounded like a bad Jefferson Airplane clone with guest vocals by a drunk Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Two thumbs up for this classic western that features a unique performance by Franco Nero, one of the greatest soundtracks ever, lots of cult action, almost no cliches at all and two of the most moving scenes in film history.

Keoma simply does too little to distinguish itself from the countless Italian westerns of the preceding decade. Strong villains are a must in the genre but Castellari's have no presence or charisma, and in the end it's only the fierce Nero performance and the wild overuse of slow motion that stand out at all.

Looking for really weird westerns? You found one. Those guys must have been high all the time while making this. But it was the 70s, after all. Certainly unusual - expect the unexpected, and get some beer plus your fake .45 to point it at the screen. It should shoot suction darts, it's that kind of movie.

for all its flaws, this is a volatile, melancholy western filmed in the language of memories and fevered dreams, and those close-ups of keoma's face continue to stay with me.

I disliked the soundtrack so much I almost turn the film off. The story itself is nothing special and Franco Nero does a good job while never selling the idea that he was a half-breed. The film is brutal but not very graphic, it's fun but definitely not a classic. Also the lack of blood and bullet holes during the action scenes got a bit annoying especially since nearly every time someone is shot, punched, or hit the scene is shown in slow motion.

Franco Nero is Keoma, righteous wild redneck looking cowboy who recklessly rights every wrong he sees. Eventually he meets his dad and band of his evil half-brothers, and boy, there are some hurt feelings in this family. Have to mention soundtrack with some badly sung folk songs that actually tell the plot of the film. Some interesting camera work. Dialogs are mind-numbingly good (bad). Having never heard of this film before I started cautiously, but soon I was loving it.

Very artistic and heavy on the melodrama.

A bit too long, but otherwise a fantastically ridiculous spaghetti.

Franco Nero is made over to look a bit like Charlie Manson as Keoma, your dime-a-dozen "fastest gun in the west" but with a hippie hairdo. He pisses off a big-shot bad-guy named Caldwell, and his own three asshole brothers (one of whom is a Donald Sutherland lookalike) who work for Caldwell, but against all odds he perpetually kicks their butts. There's a King-Learish element at work. The soundtrack is ridiculous. Contrary to many spaghetti westerns, there is no humor.

It's a bit rough at times, but Nero totally makes it work. Keoma is a great character and the script really hits some nice beats on both an individual and a social level. The use of a mixed timeline doesn't always work, but it does give the film a unique atmosphere .

Decent story and great performances from the actors makes this a must see of the Spaghetti Westerns.

Franco Nero plays a strikingly hairy half-breed with an Italian accent in this odd film. The infamous soundtrack wasn't so bad at first (reminded me of the band Comus) but as the film goes on the singing is more intrusive, which is sad 'cause the music sans vocals is very cool.

Castellari likes to mimick Peckinpah's slo-mo images of people being shot, and it's pretty cool at some parts but is mostly sloppy. But the film is unique enough for me to recommend to genre fans. I'd re-watch
