Kenpei to barabara shibijin

1937, and 6 months since Sendai Infantry left for Manchuria. Rotted corpse of young woman is found at the bottom of well, but face & limbs are missing. Military police begin investigation & search for killer, but can't even find victim's identity, let alone clues. Incident is made public by newspape coverage. Staff Sergeant Kosaka is sent from Tokyo which upsets local MP's. Eventually, trooper Tsunekichi is taken into custody by local MP's & interrogated as likely killer. (Letterbox'd & me)
