In this comedy, a scrawny barber must compete with a muscle bound thug for the love of a manicurist. Naturally the manicurist is most attracted to the brute until the barber can prove that he is a crook. The two then duke it out in the boxing ring. Later it is the weakling who gets the girl. Not nearly as many laughs as I had hoped in this George Formby comedy, where he accidentally becomes an athletic macho man! Formby's likable personality still manages to make this enjoyable as he engages in various sports with little clue what he's doing. And of course there is time for some ukulele songs in between events.....

Amusing comedy unfortunately can't sustain itself for its relatively brief running time; Formby's hapless predecessor to Gomer Pyle would be more endearing in a 30 minute format, but what is here is still modestly enjoyable, especially in the first half. The film is really an extended vaudeville act (with many opportunities for the action to stop so that Formby can perform a song directly to camera!)
