Hugh Jackman at his most charming and Meg Ryan at her most bored-looking. Not the worst rom-com you'll ever see, but far from the best.

The average romcom. Hugh Jackman is pretty charming, but that's about it.

Meg Ryan clichés her way through another brick in her wall of romcoms with a historical time curve getting her and a youthful Hugh Jackman in this cheesy film. Also spotted was a very young Viola Davis, an underused Spalding Gray, and a too-good-for-this-movie Liev Schreiber. But all things considered, i had fun

A forgettable movie with an interesting premise ruined by lame jokes, flat characters, and a script so cliché it would be pointless to watch.

Delightful. The characters are so perfectly defined. It's a shame Meg Ryan already had those un-enchating lips.

Vastly underrated. It juggles a dialectic about ethics, ideals, and cynicism in modern times with comedy, romance, and an almost embarrassingly well-written time-travel plot. It may be lightweight, but it's shockingly good in contrast with the preview. It includes a lot of quite interesting stuff that reminds us how much courtship and marriage has changed (and hasn't) over time. Jackman is totally convincing as a man from another century, and Ryan is hilariously wry.

A great romantic comedy!! I can't really think of anyone better for the role of Leopold than Jackson! He is amazing and perfectly "Prince Charming" and all that, but also deep and thoughtful. And I think Schreiber is excellent as well - the part about the dog seeing a rainbow is always very touching. I adore the film and somehow they even manage to explain the whole time-travel thing and make it work!

Director's Cut: A novel idea for a romantic comedy doesn't really come together, largely for some unnecessary convolutions to the relationships in the director's cut, but as a whole Mangold tells this story with a too heavy (and overlong) hand, diminishing interest in the premise by about the halfway point. Jackman and Ryan are both fine and appealing here (Ryan seems uncommonly relaxed and "natural"), and the distinguished supporting cast are fun, if a little too numerous.

They put a lot of efforts in it, with the sets and the scifi twist to the story, and the side characters that are actually more interesting than Meg Ryan's character. The fish out of the water number can be childish but funny. I think I would have preferred seeing the adventures of Stuart and Leopold rather than the more predictable and cliché story of the businesswoman and her slimy boss being saved by the authentic guy. Still, above average for a romcom.

Tell you what, when I look for romantic comedies, I look for the whole package, that means a movie that doesn't just focus on the chemistry. Kate & Leopold focuses on that chemistry, it focuses on the fish out of water hilarity, it focuses on the time travel, it focuses on the side characters, it focuses on everything in a really balanced way, plus Meg Ryan is America's sweetheart during this period. I find this to be a classic and I dig it. Biased: 96% | Unbiased: 76% | Predicted: 74%

You must at least appreciate movies that Meg Ryan is in. She has set the bar for romcoms for centuries and women of my generation will always look back at this and "Sleepless in Seattle" with a bit of nostalgia and a bit of a crush.

It started like a fun kid's film but an 'out of water' Paul Hogan meeting marketing exec Helen Hunt became really dull and predictable, I'd lost interest by halfway.

Maybe I'm a sucker for time travel stories, but Jackman gives a GREAT performance and this dodges just enough of the rom-com pitfalls to become one of the few in its genre I've not only liked, but loved (and one of the only that wasn't written by Richard Curtis!).

Yes! Jump off of a bridge, for sure that is how you will find your true love! (oh wait, wouldn't that lead to death?) Plus, Meg Ryan's giant sausage like lips are distracting. I miss the old Meg. She was great.

Somehow not QUITE as irritating as most Meg Ryan movies, probably because of the almost stunning amount of male hotness around. Jackman has never looked more beautiful--and been permitted to be as charming, and Liev Schreiber... um, woof. Just turn down the sound when Ms. Ryan is onscreen and you'll be fine. I thought the violinist looked familiar, and it turns out that it's Nai Yuan Hu, a guy I went to school and played chamber music with! Turn the sound back up for him.

Meg Ryan and Romantic chick flicks just go together. Take this movie as the best example. This is another of the time travel romance genre (also see "Time after Time"), this time masterfully acted by Jackman and Ryan. You really will need to watch this movie twice to catch the subtlty of detail.
